How to arrive
If you want to find peace,
it lives here.

In Caraíva, a peaceful fishermen village 70 kilometers far from Porto Seguro , seems like the time has stoped to let the nature reign supreme , still totally preserved.Soon as arrive, an exuberant view breaks in the hills to the place access:the river in one side , the village in the center and in the back the stunning blue of the sea, surrounded by coconut palms.

The hard access, with some kilometers of unpaved road protected the village preservation , with your rustic style and at the same time sophisticaded.A lot of people have changed the commodities of a big city for a piece of this paradise, where the big shows are performed by nature in each moon rise and sunset , in each bird sing or in each song of the wind.

The Caraíva river is the soul of the village and the life of the people runs around it. Until the 80's the settlement was just beside its bank. It is by the river that you can reach the old fishermen village using the canoe. After tourism , fishing is the main local economic activity, close followed by handcrafts in wood and coconut, produced in majority by Pataxós Indians from Barra Velha reserve. The beaches reveals unbelievable beauty, with its sands full of shells, buzios and corals. Some restaurants beside the beaches guarantee cold beer, coconut milk or a good meal, running through native dishes and its tasty spices to a healthy vegetarian food or to an international cookery.

For those who are looking for quietness and tranquility, Caraíva is the right place.Fishermen throwing their nets, donkeys slowly carring their cargos, women washing their clothes on the river are typical scenes of this village, where time seems to stopped.

A good option for a ride is to take a walk by the beach going way down to south, get on a fisherman boat or a cart and visit the Indian Reserve of Barra Velha, at the base of Monte Pascoal, historic landmark of Brazil's discovery. At the Reserve it is possible to buy handcrafts and meet the culture of the Indians Pataxós.

Cars, busses or motorbikes cannot run into the sand streets, full of fruit trees, highlighting the bucolic face of the village.Children running free and playing carefree on the streets. To escape from the hot sun that shines all through the year, residents prefer to change some “little proses” under leafy and centenary trees.

But nature is not the only life reason for the tourists and residents of Porto Seguro.Even without electricity, lodging houses and restaurants have generator units to guarantee the comfort to the visitors, with the right to a “forró e arrasta-pé”(native dances) from Sunday to Sunday.
