The district of Trancoso was born in 1586, in 1759 was elevated as a village and it is originally of an old Jesuitic village named São João Batista dos Índios.The Square (moving square), a typic form of settlement from the Jesuits, centralized the church and the little houses, which towards the rise of the tourists activities was transformed in shops, bars, restaurants, and lodging houses.Centenary trees, like jaqueiras, mangoos trees, amendoeiras and jacarandas surround the place and give a special clime to the Square, that resume part of the good life style in Trancoso.
